one thing i like about the hunger games is that in catching fire, all katniss and peeta can think about is keeping each other alive in the context of the games, i.e. one of them has to be the victor. they’re still very much playing by the capitol’s rules. but the adults, such as the more experienced victors and plutarch, are thinking beyond that–what if there were no hunger games? what if no one else had to die meaninglessly? it really emphasizes the fact that katniss and peeta are still children, still quite short-sighted, while the adults who have suffered through the system much longer than they have are thinking of dismantling it
The reason Panic at the disco failed where My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy succeeded is the lack of twink appreciation. Gerard Way and Patrick Stump both realized their respective twinks were the backbone of the band. Whereas Brendon Urie’s twinks unionized and left.
People will say “write what you know!” But I know so little
“Bad books on writing tell you to ‘write what you know’, a solemn and totally false adage that is the reason there exist so many mediocre novels about English professors contemplating adultery.”
